Re: how are you and your ratties keeping cool today?

Well i'm still waiting for my order to come with my granite tiles some put some dinner plates in the freezer and then out them in the cages. The ratties are pancaked on them at the moment! We live in the flat at the top of the house so we get everyone else's heat  we've had all the windows ope...

Re: Blind - now sneezing

I echo the advice above. Also, 5 days is not long enough if it is infection, improvement will be seen but it isn't a long enough for the infection to really be dealt with. 14 days is a minimum. It is possible he has an infection despite the others not having anything, just because one has one doesn'...

Re: Blind - now sneezing

Putting him back with the others would be fine :) and I would advise taking a friend for company to reduce the stress of the visit :)

Re: Oh dear, first experience of a rat post op

My boys pulled their stitches out post castration- the vet has used glue and internal stitches as well as the external ones so it didn't matter when they pulled them out. Rats heal incredibly fast and as the skin heals it gets tight around the stitches- also post op swelling will cause tightness aro...

Re: Advice needed please!

I think that I remember reading somewhere that babies are prone to blocked tear ducts- that's what that looks like to me. What I would do is bathe that in some salt water (one teaspoon to a pint of boiled water and allow to cool) twice a day for a few days and see if it improves. If it doesn't, gets...

Re: How Fussy are Your Rats ?

Yes! My boys won't eat pasta with tomato sauce if you put anymore than two garlic cloves in it!

And they will pick sweetcorn out of food and refuse to eat it but go totally mad for sweetcorn fishing!

Some salt water would be fine for that- just mix a teaspoon of salt into some boiled water and let it cool :)

Re: Rat castration?

I got my two boys done at Barn Veterinary Practice in Ipswich- they have two practices, one at Copdock and one on Ashcroft Road which is off Norwich Road. The same staff work between the two practices. They carried out my boys op's successfully and I was charged just over £90 for both of them :) I w...

New explorer!

I found out I was getting this last week and I desperately wanted to post because I was so excited but thought I better hold off until I actually had it and could get pics! Anyway, on Monday I took delivery of my new explorer. I bought it off my mum :p she had bought it with the intention of having ...

Re: Freddy 2/3 ok for two bucks?

A freddy would be ok for 2 or 3 but no more than that. A furet plus would be ok for up to 4 ratties. Bigger than that I'm not sure because I have massive cages that I am intending to slowly fill with ratties!

I'll make a few suggestions anyway! Re: Albert's lump

Albert had a successful lumpectomy the afternoon :) the surgery was more complicated than expected however, the lump was much bigger and deeper than expected and had begun to abscess around it as well. However it was easily removed and the surgery was successful. They respected my request for no inj...

Just part the hair on the back of the neck and drop it on. I usually use the end of the pipette to spread it out :) they don't like it that much, so reward them with something tasty afterwards!

Re: Albert's lump

Thanks ErnieG! The reason I asked about a night alone is because one of my boys, Rupert, is almost certain to try to atleast groom his wound, if not pull the stitches out and open it all back up again for him  so if Albert is a bit out of it then I'm a little worried about him not being able t...
