Re: Breeder list
Im 100% not going down the pet shop route.
Secret pennell has been fantastic with me, but simply doesnt have any boys in at the moment. Il just have to wait until she does.
Was just saying.

Re: Breeder list
There is one very helpful breeder on here "secretpennell". Apart from that im at a bit if a loss really. Pet shops you just walk in, purchase, walk out. No home check etc etc. Whilst I appreciate the breeder route and its gains (hence why I have gone down that route) The other method is so much easi...

Re: Breeder list
Its no wonder people buy from pet shops. Its impossible to get a pair of male baby rats in North Wales.

Re: Rat in the shed
Not just that, but we are having some building work done on the living room, in an attempt to get it looking smart. A big hulking great rat cage just wont go. Im really interested in the avery meshing idea though. How would it work though (with pictures preferablly) The meshing would need to come on...

Re: Rat in the shed
There will be a big temperature difference in the winter - no shed is going to be as warm as a centrally heated home as I said. I wasn't saying you'd be keeping them chilly but rather that there will be a big temperature variance in winter whatever measures you take. That variance won't be healthy ...

Re: Rat in the shed
Why not add a mesh door inside your 'normal' door - kind of like a bird aviary door? Lots of people with rabbits do this. What kind of window do you have? Again; with rabbits in sheds most people use mesh in summer and stick perspex over it in winter. A point I wonder if you have considered is this...

Rats on the move
How do you get them about from place to place. If mine are in the shed, I will look to fetch them inside for a bit of a free roam. Thing is I would be really wary of them jumping down off my shoulder or something. How do you know if a rat is comfortable to travel with you, and how would you know if ...

Re: Rat in the shed
Just went in there now, its pretty hot and stuff. I think in the winter it will be ideal it will keep the heat in there, summer would be the problem I think. Im torn because there really is about 3 cats that keep visiting and usually sleep in there. If I have a door and window open they will get in....

Re: Rat in the shed
Problem with the window, is its goosed. So if its open, its WIDE open and blows a gale through it, making it freezing in there most of the time. I really wouldnt wanna chance it. Hmm

Re: Rat in the shed
It will be another couple of months before I get them but had a busy weekend clearling out the shed in preperation. It can be a little hot in there. I will install a temp controlled heater for winter. What can I do in the summer to get the heat down. Problem I have, is the cat I have LOVES the shed....

Re: Rat in the shed
Why have animals and keep them in a shed? Seems strange to me. If I couln't have them in the house, in my living room or other well used and warm area I wouldn't have them. Surely you can grasp it I think Catherine has a valid point. I understand that people with LOTS of rats would have a shed and ...
