Re: An overview of the new forum

We've decided against manually approving members in order to increase accessibility in emergency situations. The new captcha however does require a keyword to be entered, so should hopefully beat the automated bots.

Re: What ears do you get if you breed a dumbo to a top ear?

Dumbo ears are the result of a recessive gene, so unless the top eared rat was carrying the dumbo gene, all the babies would be top eared.

If the top eared rat was carrying it, then half the babies would be dumbos, the rest would be top eared (statistically speaking  ).

Please also warn them that the doe who gave birth is probably already pregnant again too, so there may be another litter in about 3 1/2 weeks (or a little later if she delays the implantation).

Re: Finding a rat breeder

There is a breeders section of the web directory, here, and if you send an email to breeder@nfrs.org you'll receive a list of all the breeders registered with them, together with their location and contact details. :luck:

Re: what would you call these - 11 babies

The colours are black and mink, the markings are mismarked hooded and berkshire (with white 'socks' and some white on the belly). They are unlikely to all be satin, so probably just healthy shiny normal coated babies. :D So: Black hooded Mink hooded Black berkshire Mink berkshire and if any have no ...

Go ahead and start a thread in the appropriate forum - and if any edits to the title are required at a later date, please use the report function to request one.

Note: subsequent discussion on the terms used to describe different sexualities etc. has been split into its own thread, here

Re: how do i add pictures?

An avatar has to be an appropriately sized picture (I think the max is something like 120 x 140 pixels) held in a public hosting location (e.g. photobucket).

Re: Classroom pets?

My suggestion would be to have a group of between 4 and 6 with a spread of ages based at home, and select which ones to take in on any particular day. Cagewise I'd recommend having something like a Ferplast Brio aviary for the classroom - it's big enough for the whole group if necessary and is also ...

Re: HELP! Anyone have a photo of a half wild rat??

Wild rats are going to have two copies of the agouti gene which is dominant, and therefore all their offspring would be agouti. Your girl is a black berkshire and so can't have a truly wild parent - that doesn't remove the possibility of there being a wild rat in her recent ancestry, but it wouldn't...
