Re: Massive facial lump!

Been reading up everything i can on ZGT, mostly this , & totally freaked myself out to the stage where im now convinced im cursed, what with all the rat illness iv had to deal with recently.

I'll try & get a pic of Miles later, see what you guys think, before we go to the vets.

Re: Massive facial lump!

If it is ZGT then the abcess will reoccur no matter how good you treat it. You say there is discharge from the ear? An abcess usually finds the easiest way through tissue. The ear canal is a very tough tissue, which means that puss from that is very unlikely to mean abcess puss. Is there any blood ...

Re: how much have you paid to have lumps/tumors removed?

Last yr i was charged £60 for Kadens lump removal, then a few months later another £60 to have 2 lumps removed. I'd enquired about de-nadding prices as at one point i had a rather huffy boy, & was quoted £57. Never did the op tho, since he calmed down. Will be interesting to find out the latest lump...

Massive facial lump!

It never ends! After losing Felix on Monday, & Charlie being miserable because of that (& now sneezy..), Miles was my only healthy rat. I got home from work last night to find Miles sporting a massive lump just under his ear. Theres some solid discharge inside his ear, but too deep for me to get a g...

:( Aw, so sorry to read this. You did all you could for him and gave him love and care in his last few months. Thanks. Im just glad i was with him in the end. Re: Could this be SDAV??

Bit of a sad update here. Felix died this morning, at 2.50am. He'd had another fit. He wasn't looking too bright yday & we were discussing whether to PTS - i guess he heard us & decided he was doing it his own way.. I'm numb at the moment, as i wasn't really expecting it, he was doing so well. I'd o...

Re: Tips for protecting HLD feet??

Rats in socks, very cute. I think though, I would prefer a rat with this condition to feel contact with floors/grass etc. I mean grass from perhaps growing some! Just keep an eye out and if there's any scuffing, you can always massage the feet with a little olive/coconut oil. Thanks for that, i sha...

Tips for protecting HLD feet??

Ok, so Felix has no use of his back legs, but gets around fine. thing is, im worried about the skin on his feet getting ulcerated/friction burn, from rubbing on the floor. Hes got vetbed in the cage, & my carpet isnt too bad, but i don't want him rubbing his feet raw.. Anyone have any ideas or tips ...

Re: Could this be SDAV??

Iv spent the last couple days watching this thread but not being able to reply - stupid pc.. Interesting points you guys have brought up! I should mention tho that it was Felix with the blood, whereas Charlie was fine on metacam (tho i stopped him on it same time as Felix, just incase), & its Charli...

Re: Could this be SDAV??

Elmo- i'm so sorry you're having to go through this it''s so hard :-( Thanks :) Its really stressing me out, trying to decide whats best. I don't want to lose him before hes ready to go, but i don't wanna leave it too long either. I know its better a day early than a day late, but its still so hard...

Re: Could this be SDAV??

Thought i should update this. Felix has been diagnosed with a PT, is blind, & has little to no use of his back legs. We only discovered he was blind a wk ago, when i rushed him to the vets after a series of fits (tho we had wondered about his sight before that, so don't think the fits caused the bli...

Re: They won't take their meds - end of my tether!

it really seems to depend on the individual rat with meds- i have one ho will wolf down septrin, zithromax and any other flavoured med, but he can sniff a pinch of ronoxan a mile away and won't touch it... funny little beasties! i tend to always have malt paste and nutella in my med cupboard- they ...

Buying meds online

Can anyone tell me the best/most reliable website to get meds from? I'm back at the vets this arvo with Felix & Charlie, they'll need more ronaxan, & well, my vet charge £5 for 2 tablets.. I've looked at vetuk.co.uk, & they only charge 41p a tablet, so even with delivery charges, i'll be saving! I u...

Re: They won't take their meds - end of my tether!

you sound so relieved! Hope they're better soon. Oh i totally am! They took it on toast again last night, but Felix ate it so fast he started choking  He sorted himself out eventually, but i was bit worried to start with, as Felix has a fast heart rate as it is.. But hes fine this morning thi...
