Hi there, welcome to the world of rat lovers I think it's great that you're gonna get some lil boys and that you want more info first. I would suggest that you trawl through some of the forum posts of the past to get some ideas, plus there are great info sheets linked to the home page. My biggest pi...

Have they travelled much before? We take our 2 to my partner's parents quite regularly. It takes just under an hour and they travel in a ferplast aladino medium. Sheri is used to it, but Maus gets a little bored. We are going to Devon this weekend (from Surrey, for a week) and my partner wants us to...

I've been looking up some stuff on diabetic rats and it sounds well scary I read an article by the rat & mouse gazette - m It says that diabetic rats tend to be unactive, and Tink does not match that at all, she is always scampering around climbing stuff - hopefully she hasn't got it afterall! W...

My Sheri has odd hair on her rump. She started out with really dark brown hair there, but now its almost ginger and it's definately thinner than her other hair. Personally I'm not too worried, I do think it's due to Maus peeing on her; she does it all the time!

Thank you.

Diabetes sounds possible. When we first saw them they told us that she loves choc biccies! I told them not to give her these at all, so now when we're there they only get toast or fruit as snacks.

I look forward to your further advice, and will pass it on.

She lives with another doe and as far as i know has always drunk a lot, although they only realised fairly recently (B4 hot weather though). She is fed dry food mostly, although they do give them some treats, mainly fruit. I don't think that food can cause it though, cos the other rat doesn't drink ...

thirsty rat

I have a question with regard to someone else's rat. Basically, she drinks like there's no 2morro. They have 2 rats and they get through a whole bottle a day (my 2 have same bottle and only drink 1/4 to 1/3 a day). When she comes out for a run they put a dish of water on the floor for her and she gu...

'blood' on nose could just be mucous. It's a sign of stress with rats if they get red stuff round their noses (it is stressful being bought and scrapping with other rats for dominance). If it was from a scrap, then I doubt you have anything to worry about as it went away. they will fight; you haven'...

funny noises update

Sheri has just started making noises again while curled up in her nest. It really doesn't sound like congestion, more of a sleepy squeak. It is quite a depressing noise though (as if she's sad) ...should I be worried about this?

Thanks all for your help.
She hasn't made any noise since I posted the question, but I will keep an eye on her, and if she starts doing it again I will definitely take your advice and go to the vet.

Funny noises

My 1 year old doe, Sheri, has recently started making some odd noises when she's asleep. She kindof half squeaks, half breathes heavily, and it's quite loud. Putting a human perspective on it it sounds like she is crying (obv i know she isn't). It's not constant, just occasionally I notice it, and i...
