Re: What's the difference between girls and boys?
This is a very common question but can only be given generic answers really. On the whole, girls are much more active than boys. They will be into everything and enjoy exploring and playing games. They usually have no issues living with and being introduced to other girls. They are more likely to su...

Re: 30 Gallon Tank
I wouldn't keep rats in a tank at all. Is the bar spacing too wide for babies in your main cage? If so could you mesh it temporarily?

Re: How much to get a rat x-rayed
We've only ever had one done and paid £34 but that was a discounted price - the price for an extra plate only. They didn't need to anaesthetise as he was very poorly. I can't remember what they said the full price should have been.

Re: Does your vet charge per rat?
It depends how many we're tAking in and what the problem(s) is but ours wouldn't charge a full fee for each rat. When we've taken several with the same problem it would usually be one consult. When there's several with different issues that might take longer to deal with it would usually be one cons...

I wouldn't bother until you know which AB is most likely to have an effect.

Re: Cage for 8-10
I'm not familiar with the F23 I'm afraid. First to mind are: The Furet Tower which I think has a slightly bigger footprint than a Jenny but is plenty big enough for 8-10 if you put in plenty of accessories If you've got the space and money then my personal favourite is the Savic Royal Suite Or if yo...

Re: Advice Re: Large Open Abcess *WARNING GRAPHIC PIC*
I'd agree it looks very healthy so just keep flushing it a couple of times a day with salt water and it should heal up on its own.

Re: Boys with abscesses forming under neck
I wouldn't expect it to spread outside of the group. My understanding is they probably spread through poo so they'd need to be in close contact.

Re: Boys with abscesses forming under neck
If it's happening to more than one rat it's likely you've got a bacteria infection in the group. It might be worth getting the pus tested and then blanket treating everyone with a suitable antibiotic while thoroughly disinfecting the cage to see if that gets rid.

Agreed, we only have 3 in our SRS and we only change the substrate every couple of weeks, depending on how dirty it gets.

Re: Tylan in water - Drink refusal
Dosing in water isn't recommended, because as you have found, it can put the rats off drinking, you can't control how much they get and when and you dose rats that don't need the drugs.

Re: My rat seems to have OCD....
Welcome to the forum :) Don't worry, making food stashes is very normal, as is doing so in the litter tray  But if the food isn't being eaten then it's possible you arefeeding too much. How long doesit stay in thecage? Ideally they should have finished all of their food, including emptying the ...
