GA induced coma?

Just curious to see if anyone else has experienced anything like this. It happened to Pax, one of my older (now sadly ex-) girls. In short, she went in for sugery to remove a nasty tumour, and basically didn't wake up from the GA properly. She was breathing okay and her heart rate was okay, but she ...

Good luck! You've caught the lump pretty early, so if it is a tumour there's a good chance the Vet will be able to remove it, and if not, there's a good chance you can slow it's growth with supplements. It could be a small abscess, in which case it shouldn't take much to sort it out. Let us know wha...

Hmmm, I don't really know what to suggest. Normally I'd say get down the Vets pronto, but if you know for sure the duty Vet won't know anything about rats it's probably not going to help. Having said that though, it might be useful generally if a Vet were to see him while he's actually having one of...

Oh dear! Well, I shouldn't imagine that eating all those treats will kill him, having never experienced though, I can't say for sure, but I'd be very surprised if they did. He will probably feel quite uncomfortable for a while though, and he might have become constipated too, which could cause him s...

Have you tried FerretVite? It's really high in calories, and I mean REALLY high, it might give Blahnik a hand? Don't feed her too much, it's almost pure sugar and she will go nuts on a sugar high if you do (amusing to watch but not really good for her ) No more than a teaspoon a day, I usually use 1...

I don't know how you could distinguish between one type of lump and another without having it tested I have a method, it's not foolproof by any means, but I believe it can give a good indication of what sort of lump you're dealing with. I monitor the tumour size closely, when the girl comes into se...

Ratgirl, I'll print out the advice you gave on the anti-bs as well as the other info I've been given. Thanks so much. No problem, hope you don't need any of it and Giles' lump turns out to be nothing so sinister! but you know, just in case you do ... and good luck at the Vets err, later today now, ...

There is a supplement called l-carnitine (an amino acid) that you could posisbly try although I think it would be very expensive and difficult to dose as it's only availble in human capsules. There is an L-Carnitine supplement available that can be given to rats, I've used it on a couple of mine as...

Ratgirl@RatRitz, I'm so sorry you lost Ipo, what a sweetie. Thanks Ali, she was a sweet girl. Your plan for Giles sounds very reasonable, to be honest I'm rather jealous of all the options you have available should it turn out to be a tumour. I wish I'd had some of those for Ipo. Have you discussed...

Hi Ali, I just wanted to say something regarding Giles possible bone tumour. I think you need to establish what it is as soon as possible, if it is a tumour, as emma_j says, they can progress very quickly. If you are seriously considering the amputation route provided it is a tumour, I would get on ...
