He's started now actually pushing the food bowl away from him when I offer it to him, if it's something he doesn't want to eat. He used to love yoghurt, now he won't touch it. He had some porridge this morning but pushed away the baby food last night :( I need more ideas of what to give him! He does...

He's currently on Synulox as there is a bit of an infection, but his coat started thinning pretty much as soon as he went on the baby food :( I mash up steamed brocolli for him cos he LOVED it before, but now he won't eat it :( If anyone can type up a few recipes from the SG book here I'd be grateful!

Losing all teeth and coat thinning :(

Poor Winston :dumbo: :hearts: both his bottom teeth have dropped out now, not sure if the tooth root is still in there, it's very hard to tell. One of his upper teeth has also snapped and the other upper tooth may even have fallen out now....it's so hard to hold him and try to look, he will NOT let ...

Well he's not had his teeth removed - the vet said he "didn't take the anaesthetic well" and every time they worked on the gums to start loosening them, he was bleeding loads apparently, so vet didn't want to risk it. So he's been burred as much as he possibly can and is now all groggy in his cage a...

Just rung the vets, he's out of surgery and has come thru, they gave no other details apart from "the vets wants to talk to you before you take him home". I hope they got all the roots out else he'd have to have a repeat operation when they grow back :( Hope there were no other complications.... I e...

Well I rang the vets just now, rather than traipse all the way over there, and spoke to the same vet who tried to clip his teeth last week. We discussed the options and he admitted he'd only ever removed rabbit incisors, never rat ones. he did say it'd not be great to have to put Winston under every...

I could never clip the teeth myself as I live alone and there's no-one around to hold him - and he really does scream and jump and wriggle and get sooo stressed and upset :( Burring is slowly grinding down the teeth (like a file, but it's a machine, sometimes its used with water), its much gentler a...

Just read the CavyRescue blog which is handy, and this link http://www.fancy-rats.co.uk/community/viewtopic.php?t=51919&highlight= which is great. So they can eat small bits of hard food by pushing it to the back of their mouths? Is there any risk of choking with the baby food and smoothies etc? I r...

What's the difference between clipping and burring? I was thinking of having the teeth removed because to have them clipped under anaesthetic at £30 a time every few weeks, plus to stress Winston and scare him, I don't want to do that - I'd rather put the £ towards getting rid of them altogether and...

Teeth constantly growing, trimming under anaesthetic or PTS?

Winston's lower left tooth has started growing at an abnormal rate - he's had it trimmed twice now and both times he screamed and wriggled at the vets and I felt awful. Now his upper tooth is starting to grow slightly, while the bottom one still continues to grow but is curving off to the left. I to...

One tooth grew longer than the other!

I got in last night and went to see Winston - he did his usual "lick my hand for 15 minutes" welcome :hearts: :hearts:  and I gave him a bit of raw pasta. I noticed as he was eating it he kept pulling away from it and wiping his nose with his left paw, and generally looking unhappy. I picked h...

He's out - vet said that she didn't think it was a tumour, said that it seemed more like an infected sebaceous gland or a cysty-type thing, they've cleared it all out. Hope hope hope it wasn't cancerous then no more lumps will reoccur Collecting him tonite, poor little Fuzzer will be in a lot of pai...
