Glad to hear she's slightly better. If she was dehydrated, they couldn't have given her the lasix anyway, as that can dehydrate them even more. Hopefully some time under observation at the vets will help things, and they will treat her accordingly if they can actually see her symptons. Once she is f...

Can't believe your local vets - they should remember that it's their job to look after animals. You're very unlucky. Not sure what transport you have but perhaps you could get to somewhere that isn't so local? I have to travel 30 mins to get to mine, but it's so worth it. Amazed that your girls don'...

Just make sure she's as comfortable as she can be and go to bed!!! I'm sure she'll be OK till the morning. I'm sure once she's had that Lasix, she'll be heaps better. It's good that the Vet was willing to take the info you gave her - that's a start! Make sure you let us all know how it goes tomorrow...

The Rat Healthcare book is available from NFRS sales (check the website or "Pro-Rat-A") for £4. It is only a black and white paperback book, but is VERY informative. It is American, so there are a few bits not so relevent to the UK, but overall is a comprehensive reference, and I frequentl...

Sorry to say it, but see if you can find another vet! I would personally think from the symptoms you have descibed that lasix WOULD work - your poor rattie is clearly unwell, and although I'm obviously not a vet, I can't see what harm trying the Lasix would do. It has helped every time I have used i...

Don't worry about all the questions - I wish I'd known about this forum years ago, as it a great reassurance to hear from other owners! Your vet doesn't sound terribly helpful I'm afraid. I would get her back to the vets ASAP, and ask them to give her a diurectic (not sure I've spelt that correctly!...

Don't panic though - she could have food stuck, as Joolz said. Keep an eye on her. Bear in mind that when my boy developed these symptoms, he was already ill with Myco - if your girl was healthy an hour ago, it may well be stuck food.

Hi, You poor thing - it's awful having to see them like that. Make sure she get's the Baytril for at least 2-3 weeks, or the symtoms may return. My vet actually rarely uses Baytril - I bought a little buck from a petshop, who was sneezing continually - he was treated intensively with Zithromax for a...

Hi, How old is Gwinny? Has she has any resp problems? My old buck Rolo developed this problem in the later stages of Myco. He appeared to retch, and had white mucus coming from his mouth. I think it's something to do with fluid on the lungs. It was very distressing. It did ease off after about an ho...

Hi,
For anyone in the South Essex area, Lynfords Saddlery Nad Pet shop, on the Runwell Road in Wickford, have a stock of EcoPet Bed at £8.30 a bale. They agreed to stock it, as myself and several of our members in the Estuary Rat Club purchase it there.
