Re: I need to know everything about rats

Hi supermum! Loads of people have already given some great advice, so all I'll add is that I'm in Coventry too (Earlsdon) if you'd like to come and meet some rats in the fur before deciding :D I have four lovely boys (one elderly, one middle-aged and two younger boys) and am always happy to have a r...

Re: Recommended vets in Coventry (neutering)?

I've booked him in on Wednesday at the Pet Vaccination Clinic, and asked for the same vet who did Raphael last year - fingers crossed eveything will go as smoothly for Marmalade!

Recommended vets in Coventry (neutering)?

Can anybody recommend me a good vet in Coventry for neutering, please? I looked in the Resources bit but the nearest recommended one was I think in Rugby. It's for a slightly older boy (he's about 17 months) and I really want to make sure it goes well. He was fine with his previous cagemates but has...

Re: baby wild rats

It's really difficult to hand-rear (I tried once but they died after a few days :( ), so their best option really is to find a local surrogate ratmum who could nurse them. But since that might not be an option, you'll need to get and warm up some kitten milk (a vet/PDSA might give you some for free ...

Re: Strange/dramatic breathing probs - please help!

Thanks guys, that's interesting; I hadn't known rats could have asthma attacks! I have a ventolin inhaler myself (rat allergies   ) so I'll bear that in mind if it does happen again. After an hour or so of resting in the small cage last night he gobbled up his baytril in some food and see...

Strange/dramatic breathing probs - please help!

I've just gotten back from the emergency PDSA clinic with my little lad Hamilton, but am still not entirely sure what happened with him tonight. The vet said it was most likely a resp problem and I have some baytril, but I wanted to post a vid on here as I've never seen this before. When it started ...

Re: The risks of surgeries; an eye opener

I'm really sorry to hear about Randall :( I'd have to say though that in 13 years you have either been very lucky or have a really good vet! Or perhaps I've just been quite unlucky with rats under anaesthetic? Either way, I never view any surgery as minor because you can just never tell if they migh...

Re: advice needed please

thank you guys, :D this has been going on for so long now, my rats had the asbscess flushed out under a general anasthetic yesterday, and now they are on this new anti biotic, I am awaiting lab results... (again) this new vet seems to think it could be TB. Anyone ever heard of this in rats, the vet...

Re: Very small hard lump in skin

It does sound like a cyst. My Merlot had one for a couple of months, then one day it kind of came to a head and a little black thing came out (I pulled it out for him 'cos I'm gross and like things like that :sickrat: ) and after that it healed over as if it'd never been there :)

Re: Should I insist on steroids for neuro problem?

He sounds very similar to my Blaze in his last week :( He had what we suspect to have been a PT, and displayed the same symptoms as Jazz, and also shivering/circling/confusion. I'm really sorry, but I do want to emphasise what sati said, especially the last paragraph. Unfortunately Blaze, even with...

Re: Reggie Rat

As a breeder I own and will see more rats go through their full lives with me here than the average home. What I would like to do in a a year or so time is to begin to report my own findings, as almost all of my rats have been reared and maintained on straights all their lives. I'm not alone in bei...
