Re: Rat safe trees/plants?

The other thing you could do is fill a seed tray with compost and sew a handfull of bird food in it, let it grow on a bit (a couple of weeks, more or less, depending on weather) and let the rats play in the resulting plants.

Re: Do you dare me to...

It's your decision of course, but if you do decide to modify your cage, be absolutely sure of what you want to do before you start, measure and check and re-measure and re-check before you cut, and make sure you cut neatly and file off any sharp bits. you so reminded me of my late father who always...

Re: Do I need to do an Intro after seperation during ilness?

Why did you need to separate them in the first place? I've never found it necessary to separate any rat from her cagemates due to illness, or even following surgery. A poorly or post-op rat will probably recover better if she has company.

Re: Do you dare me to...

I'm going to be controversial and go against the flow here... I have a Furet Tower, which I love, and very shortly after I bought it, I modified it by putting new doors into it. It turned a great big super cage into a great big super-duper user-friendly cage. No manufacturer makes the perfect rat ca...

Re: Synulox- how do you give it?

Is it the tablets or the liquid you have? I never had a lot of luck with the liquid - the volume required seemed a lot to hide, it has strong smell of synthetic banana which might tempt human children but doesn't fool rats (the medication is the same as used for humans with synus infections etc; my ...

B & Q and The Range both do small-ish sheets of mesh - about 2 ft x 3 ft - in the garden sections.

Re: Need cheaper tray litter - what to do?!

Yesterdays News is paper-based pellets. You can buy it from http://www.rlpetproducts.co.uk/store/cats/litter/ The unscented one is suitable for rats, and buying two or more of the 30lb bags works out very economical.

Hope this helps :D

Re: Furet XL for small doe?

The space between the bars on a Furet XL is 15mm. Saffy lived in my XL with no problems (and believe me, if anyone could escape from anything, it would have been Saffy  ) and she only weighed about 260g.

Re: Rats reunited

I've always put a post-op rat straight back in with her friends as soon as we get home from the vet's, provided she is reasonably alert. Only once have I had a rat who was still a bit dopey from the GA when we got home, so she spent the first night alone, and went back with her friends in the mornin...

Re: Do girl rats smell better than boy rats?

My OH thinks I'm barking mad because I love sniffing rats!!! I have girls, and I love the sweet, flowery smell of their fur, but when I visit friends who have boys, I enjoy their musky smell as well.

Sniff my rat!!

Re: What is going on with my girl?

Sometimes girl rats can be a bit silly like this when they're in season. Do you think it could be that? If it is, the silliness should pass in about 12 hours or so, and possibly happen again in 3 or 4 days time.

Re: Free Range Entertainment

I use cardboard tubes - the sort used for sending large rolled paper items in the mail (my lovely sister gets them from work for me!) - and cardboard boxes. I use a Stanley knife (other craft knives are available!) to cut holes in the boxes to fit the diameter of the tubes, and cut the tubes into va...
