Re: PAH adoption system - Debate

We have a minimum donation that must be met for every animal in the Adoption Centre in our store. At the end of the day it's a charity and any vets bills come out of the funds for the adoption centre, not PAH. For all intents and purposes it is a rescue. Also, if someone won't give a donation, or le...

Re: PAH adoption system - Debate

With regards to animals in the adoption centre not getting treated: In our store we spent over £650 in 2 weeks treating animals - 2 rabbits and a chinchilla managed to rack up a huge £400 bill between them. I think sometimes a little perspective is needed when discussing the whole PAH/Adoption Centr...

Re: HLD - anything else I can do?

I might give those a go, can get some when I get the vetbed tomorrow. How much did you give your guys? Moss probably weighs about 500g now, possibly a bit less.

Re: HLD - anything else I can do?

Thanks I will try the gel and hibiscrub as I have some of that left over from an abscess. I did ask my vet about metacam and kidney problems as I was worried about using it long-term but he said these effects are negligible and the good that metacam was doing was outweighing the negative effects. I ...

HLD - anything else I can do?

Moss has finally lost all use of his back legs :( He's been on metacam every day for the past few months and this has seemed to help his mobility to a point. He is still happy in himself, loves his cuddle time with his mums and is still eating /drinking normally. He has lost a little weight so we ar...

Re: Whups!

I know it's another post off-topic, but... All my rats are neutered, and since I've decided to have all the males done I've noticed that the group has been a lot calmer, there are hardly any squabbles and everything seems to be a lot more balanced than it was when I had intact males living together....

Re: How much to neuter?

Can I just point out that the people who are saying they have never lost a rat and would happy neuter in most circumstances are very experienced rat owner who have a number of advantages over joe bloggs and his first pair of rats - you are well aware of the potential risk (something everyone should...

Re: How much to neuter?

I agree with Ellie. I've had 7 rats neutered, and all so far have been fine. That's not to say I might not be unfortunate in the future and lose one, but for me the benefits seem to outweigh the risks. If I just kept males and no females I wouldn't have it done as a routine op, simply 'for the sake ...

Re: How much to neuter?

All my boys are neutered and it works really well for me, I have 5 boys and 4 girls and they all live together happily. Obviously there's a risk, but personally I think they're a happier colony because of the mixed sexes, there's a really good balance, and never any squabbles. It costs me £3 at Comp...

Re: Zebra Rats.....??????

I remember seeing this thread first time around...I think they're lovely, and if it wasn't for the health concerns I would definitely own one! It would be an interesting variety to see in the UK, they don't look any weirder than the hairless/double rex rats i've seen.

Re: The Savic Royal Suite Club! aka *The Savic Royal Family*

I decided to keep my bargain £70 SRS in the end, I had it up for sale but I found somewhere for it to fit at the last minute so am no selling my Brio Medium instead :) It's big and it takes up a lot of room but i adore the cage, it's so easy to clean. And surprisingly easy to build, I thought I was ...
