Re: Breeder list

There is one very helpful breeder on here "secretpennell". Apart from that im at a bit if a loss really. I'm glad you think so Stuart, but the rats we originally spoke about are rescues. I don't breed fancy rats. I think you need to deal with insulating your shed against the hot weather before you ...

Re: how are you and your ratties keeping cool today?

The rat room is quite cool. During the day I keep the window closed then at night I open it to let some fresh air in. They also have a chinchilla slab and a water bowl which I have put some ice cubes in. I've also got a fuzzbutt's ice hammock which I am going to buy a freezer block for too. However ...

Re: facial swelling

I've posted on NERS but thought I would say here that I think it looks like an abscess. Winkie had one and it looked exactly the same.

Re: Benefits of spaying "later" in life??

I've read that it's only really beneficial betweem 4-6 months of age. I have started spaying at the first lump removal although the one and only girl I have done this to developed a further lump so I had her PTS today  I would still spay at the first lump in future despite this as I think that ...

Re: Cleaning water bottles.

You can get brushes from TRW. I clean them with the brush everytime I fill the bottle but after a while the brushes don't seem to do the job (especially Dr. Squiggles bottles) so I throw them away.

Re: big cage recommendations?

I couldn't be without my SRS now so fully recommend that if you're looking to invest in a cage. I've taken the middle out to give extra climbing space.

Re: Joey has become a pyscho.

I would castrate Joey asap as he sounds like he has some serious aggression issues.

Do you have a cat carrier? I would put Joey in that for the time being until you can get another cage. It won't hurt him for a night or two.

Re: ingested chewing gum. Help!

My rats have eaten gum before. How is she in herself? If she isn't chocking and seems okay then I wouldn't worry about it. The only worry I would have is if she started chocking but she would have done that soon after she eat it.

Just keep an eye on her but I'm sure she will be fine :D

Re: Don't know what's wrong with Turk :o(

Sorry I don't have any knowledge on diastic  I am 98% sure from your description that it is nosebleeds as it is exactly how I would describe the signs of one. From seeing that video I wonder if Turk has PT? Does he have any other symptoms? According to RatGuide a sign of PT is: Head pressing/H...

I'm glad it wasn't anythign serious and that she's perking up already :D

Re: matted fur on chin

I think it's for the best. If it was just the chin thing then I would say leave it until tomorrow but her breathing, lack of eating and drooling worry me.

Good luck :luck:
