Re: Siamese & Himalayan Points

could a mismarked masked end up with colour extending down the back? (trying to think of existing markings that could give the impression of a reverse smeez) or what about a striped roan that doesn't go all the way to the tail?

Re: Help help please!

First things first, calm down take a deep breath and go about this really slowly and logically. First find something to put in front of each door, so that if she's not in the kitchen yet she can't get in, but you can leave the door open and see her if she comes out. Now make double sure that she's n...

Re: Recipe for Home-Made Rat Food

Well, I figure if they enjoy it and they are healthy, then it is the way to go. Also, the vet highly encourages it, so I think I am going to stick to it. Please bare in mind capslock that while you are expressing yoru optinions, and telling us what your vet thinks, you cannot expect that a forum fl...

Re: Essex?

All I know if that it is dominant and that if a rat has two of them they don't develop so aren't born. That makes litters much smaller, so generally people don't breed essex to essex (depending on your thoughts and what you wanted/needed you could breed essex to essex and just have a smaller litter...

Re: RSCPA Rescue + Intro's

Having just done an intro with a lone rat to a group, there was one thing I realised 5 minutes in that only seemed logical after I realised. as sweet as the lone rat is, they are just as likely if not more so to be agressive, due to having been on their own so long and not necessarily speaking rat v...

Re: Alternate options for respriatory problems

Freya has had pneumonia for about 6 months now, the doxy baytril combo had stopped working, so we went onto the zithromax, it worked wonders. It gets a much higher concentration of drug into the tissue than other antibiotics. She does still have the biosolvin when she's struggling, and she is having...

Re: Just found a supplier - but which one

The biggest difference between the two is that hemcore contains citronella, which some people don't like. I use hemcore and have never had any issue with it, and find that the cirtronella is only noticeable when the bale is first opened. Citronella also doesn't exacerbate respiratory complaints, and...

Re: How much is enough

We've got a girl who has lost a lot of weight with resp issues, as well as the regular food which she is still eating though in smaller quantities, she is getting additional kibble biscuits, cooked rice with microwaved egg in it, chocolate spread (which she gets her meds in) anything soft that we ha...

Re: Not weeing in hammocks, etc?

Some do and some don't, so yes you are blessed (for now). I have found that my girls do it more now that they are older and lazier, but I still only have to change hammocks a couple of times a week :) s for chewing, again some do some don't, some will only chew certain hammocks (usually the expensiv...

Re: My Sons Rats Smell

Nuggets on their own aren't recommended for a number of reasons, personally I think of them like slimfast shakes, nutritionally balanced and completely boring :D Most people round here use some variation on the shunamite diet, this article explains the basics, but there is also a book that has a lot...

Re: My Sons Rats Smell

Right a few things I picked up from that list, if I were you I would change away from newspaper/cardboard on the bottom of the cage and try hemcore/aubiouse instead as it tends to keep the smells down better, you're already impcreasing the frequency of hammock changes which should help, and changing...

Re: 18mo boys; one dead, one dying ... help?

Unfortunately even with the best precautions in the world, there is no way to be sure that the woman besde you in the supermarket hasn't just come out of the pet shop, or that the man on the bus hasn't got ill rats. It sounds like you may well have picked up a viral infection somewhere along the lin...

Re: Rat Food

It's not really as complicated as it sounds. I would say, as it's your first attempt, get one of the base foods listed on the article then go and get some human cereals and some James welbeloved dog kibble. So your shopping list would look like this; pet shop base food (if you want to try and get so...
