Re: HELP!

PT? My first thought was PT, especially when the OP said but I doubt they will be able to diagnose anything as if you didnt know her normal behaviour Because that's exactly how Champs was in the early phases of her PT, it was like she just became a little more lazy, a lttle bit less responsive, mor...

Re: My Sons Rats Smell

apart from their hammocks which get washed once a week. This bit right here is your problem. By the end of day one they will have weed on the hammocks, and for the rest of the week that urine is being constantly warmed by the heat of little bodies lyeing on it, and giving off smell. Essentially wha...

Re: My Sons Rats Smell

Just thought, you can hang old clothes up as hammocks, they love things like the legs of fjeans, old t.shirts (they tend to like to climb inside between the front and back :) ) etc. So anything your son grows out of or gets holes in can be repurposed. Also cheap tea towels with a hole poked in each ...

Re: My Sons Rats Smell

You can use plastikote child safe spray paint to paint them, or cover them with sticky back plastic, or get plastic shelves, I have seen all done. As it's just the shelves you can also soak them over night in antibacterial washing up liquid, then soak for a while in hot hot water to rinse, I tend to...

Re: My Sons Rats Smell

Is it a wooden rabbit hutch? I know you mentioned wood shelves, so it applies anyway. Wood wil absorb and hold urine and scent marking, so unlike plastic whcih you can wipe, and fabric which you can put in the washing machine, all that wood will just be holding the smell, letting it marinade. The be...

Re: are rats sacred of fireworks

I don't think my rats have ever even noticed the fireworkd. In Leicester there are always a lot as there are huge Diwali celebrations a few weeks before Haloween, I don't think any of my rats have ever even flinched. To them it's just another far away noise I think.

Re: Article update - comments requested

Argh post gone :( Can you use different headings to aid with scanning? h1.h2.h3 etc? Under human cereals a link is missing "A list of human cereals along with their suitability in terms of feeding rats can be found here." also it's not best practice to use a "here" link but rather "list of human ce...

Nope, but I would love to hear how you get on with it. Is there an ingredients list on the bottle?

Re: don't know what to do (horrible)

It sounds to me like he's been a bit mean and over reacted, but I don't think he's being cruel. I doubt what he has done has made any difference to your rats behaviour, but it won't have done any lasting harm. Rats do get grumpy, and a change in groups is just as likely to cause this as him having s...

Re: 3 lumps - do I get them removed?

I would, the vet will probably want to do them all at once, as generally it's best to reduce the number of times they have to go under anasthetic. It is also worth consideringgetting her spayed at the same time, as while it does increase the cost, it can help prevent any more lumps occuring.

I think you'd find that even if you put her in a ball, she would roll it up into a corner and go to sleep in the bottom :D

Re: Fat rat

weight means nothing in rats, you can have a perfectly healthy female at 250g or 550g, very much like humans, what is healthy for a petite 5'4" is not healthy for an athletic 5'10". you need to look more at whether they are fat, bingo wings seem to be the first real sign. weighing is useful, but onl...

Re: Amount of M&C Nurish UM Dog to give?

If he is struggling to keep weight on, I would let him eat as much as he can, you will probably need to give him some several times throughout the day, but try not to give him any for an hour or so before you give them food (if you feed last thing at night this works quite well, as he will have all ...
