Re: American Rodent Farms and Exotic Breeders

TBH I was more shocked at the rodent farm thread then I was at this video, for so many reasons, Deformed birds would not be kept alive, it makes no commercial sense to a) castrate a rabbit and b) do it in such a way that you risk the animal getting infected, as then it's a waste of someones time. Si...

Re: Help! Lump on side of face

at first it went a bluey colour under the fur Sorry thread hijacking here, Sif had an injection of baytrill on Sunday night, the vet swore that he watered it down to prevent burn, but I thought her fur looked a little thin and blue underneath, but if it was baytrill burn it would have appeared by n...

Re: my Babies Not Wel ???

Oh hunny, don't give up yet What food have you tried, My sif is on baytrill, cos I trapped her tail under a chair leg and took all of the skin off right down to the ligament (cost me £60 that we didn't have and a lot of tears to get her to the emergency vets, so I know how you feel...and it was my f...

Re: Cremation experience

That's horrid and out of order, if it had been a cat, he wouldn't have said "I've got a stray keeps coming in my garden, I'm gonna kill it". I would put in a complaint personally, as i think they need to recognise that the death of a small animal needs to be treated with just as much respe...

Re: pregnant rat ideas

but please belive me when i say, these little critters are gonna get all the love and care for a good start in life i can possibly give. I don't doubt it for a minute I just needed a rant, cos I never realised how many rats there were in the world, and how many of them were unwanted. Every couple of...

Re: pregnant rat ideas

It just about kills me every time I see one of these threads, I'm constantly amazed at the heartlessness of some people. I know before I got the rats I have now (and we're going back 5/6 years here when I last had them) I wasn't a good owner, but I did always try to make them happy, and would never ...

Re: pregnant rat ideas

I'm a bit far away to offer any help. Could you find a local rescue or breeder who might be able to help you out with spare cages and re-homing (that way you would essentially be fostering) also check out the breeding articles, and search the breeding section of the forum for advice on how to look a...

Re: septrin - any good for respiratory problems?

If you pm Shulott she will send you the respitory guide for vets from cavey rescue. You should be able to give that to your vets to help them get your rat the right treatment :)

especially hearing stories of what he does to animals because he thinks it's funny. can you put a lock on your door. i would certainly not leave my animals where someone like that could get near them (I take it from what you say that the rest of the family couldn't give a *squeak* about his behavio...

Re: Porphyrin around one eye

One of my girls gets it quite regularly, regardless of what else is happening. I've taken her to be checked at the vets, and there is nothing else wrong with her (no other symptoms at all) I kinda figured that it's like when we get sleepy glue (does anyone else call it that, the gunk in the corner o...

Re: Dotty Mouse is a bit down...

Rats tend to be more comfortable if they are on the cold side as opposed t the warm side, so it could be the heat in your bf's house that is making them lethargic...depends how warm it actually is, but if you're walking round in a t.shirt without socks, it could be a little too warm. Also the stress...

Re: Trapped tail

Just a little update. I've checked on Sif over my lunch, and she's doing really well, her tail has already started to heal over, although I think that the ligament might always be visible, or just have a thin layer of skin over it (well there go her dreams of show stardom then ) More good news, I ma...

Re: Nose Bleeds

Is it possibly porphyrin as opposed to a nose bleed, as rats produce this naturally, but excess production is usually a sign of stress or another illness. I would take him to the vets, as it may be a sign that he is ill again, and the porphyrin would just be a symptom.
