Re: Mother Rats theat bury babies rest nest and repeat?????

Actaully no Madie likes open space Even if she likes open space when she hasn't got bubs, it is probably worth trying, as she might feel she needs to hide her babies (if she is changing where she puts her nest a lot, it could be that she is scared about it "being found" this would make se...

Re: Rat twitching?

are you sure she's not using her hind leg to have a scratch, I've looked at mine sometimes and thought they were having a fit, but no it was just an itch, and I couldn't see their hind leg (I might be the only one dumb enough to make that mistake though) :D

Re: A problem with a kitten...

Nicola, I know it's really hard, but I hope you'll getting Nico a friend sooner rather then later, I know after finding him this morning it's probably the last thing you want to think about, but don't rule it out. You obviously love Nico very much, and he will be much happier with a friend, as you p...

Re: A problem with a kitten...

Oh Nicola I'm so sorry for your loss, I don't really know what to say, don't blame yourself though, it doesn't sound like there was anything really obviously wrong with him, and nothing to sound alarm bells in such a short period of time. At least it sounds like he went peacefully, and I'm sure he i...

Re: What nail clippers?

I've not had my girls long, but I have clipped their nails twice, and I have started "pretending" to do it weekly. This has helped no end, as they are now getting used to assuming the position I get the clippers out, position the rats, and clip thin air near their nail, they are much less ...

Re: P@H Adoption - thoughts?

by "show owner" do you mean someone who puts their rats in the shows? I assume this is what you meant, but I'm kinda hoping you mean something else as that makes me really sad (especially as someone getting rats for showing would surely get them from a breeder, and so would return the rat ...

Re: Help!!!!

Please don't panic, my rats have learnt how to get into my cigs (they open the packet and take them out) and have also taken ends out of the ashtray before now They usually just rip them up, and you end up with tobacco all over the place. Mine have done this for months (and no matter how well we hid...

Re: What nail clippers?

I mean the plier type ones - they are made for round claws. I have heard that human nail clippers shouldn't be used because they are made to cut and rats have round claws. (Its just what i've been told by vets.) it sounds like your vet is worried about splaying the claw and splitting it, like what ...

Re: Should I accept what the vet says?

is there another vet in your area who knows about rats, It never hurts to get a second opinion. Vets, like doctors are only human and some may be willing to try things that others won't based on their own experiences. If you are at all unhappy with what your vet has said get another opinion, you mig...

Re: Visit to a rodent farm (with pics!)

I was mulling this over last night, and although it wouldn't solve the "pet shop" problem; when rats are being bread for food, would it not mbe more cost effective to keep them all in one large group, closer to their natural environment? I'm thinking (please don't kill me) closer to the wa...

Re: What nail clippers?

on what basis amy? there is nothing special about small animal nail clippers, other then the price tag! I have never been able to get on with the "normal" nail clippers, I get all fingers and thumbs about them, so I use the plier style ones, as I find i have far more control over them, and...

Re: Respiratory caused by humidity? Temperature? HELP!

Using a spray bottle and spraying the air with water can also help with humidity, as can leaving a damp towel on the radiator (even just the one yyou use for a shower in the morning killing 2 birds with one stone). But if you're getting blocked sinuses I'm not sure humidity would be the problem (in ...
