Re: What action can we take in response to rodent farm thread?

I've been thinking this over since I read the rodent farm thread, and my biggest concern with any form or action is the ease with which this would get linked to the "stop animal testing" protesters, due to the fact that we're talking about rats! The idea that that movement could become in ...

Re: Visit to a rodent farm (with pics!)

Interestingly when I think about it, If I wanted to buy a cat or a dog I would know to go to a breeder, or a rescue shelter, but because small animals are sold in pet shops that's the first place a novice owner, or someone who doesn't have contacts with other people caring for the same pet, would go...

Re: Visit to a rodent farm (with pics!)

Seeing these pictures has helped me open my eyes wider then the forum in general has allowed me to. I have had 5 rats all of which have been from pet stores (one of which I'm sure may have ended up as reptile food as that particular store was where we bought lizard food). What has occurred to me is ...

Re: Where has the blood come from?

Believe me when I saw that blood in the box I checked both of them thoroughly! I even checked with husband that I wasn't going mad, and no we didn't get 3 rats, and yes both the rats we have were still alive :D

Re: Where has the blood come from?

I had considered this. neither of them have any staining, they aren't showing any signs of stress, or what I would call excessive sneezing, although they did seem to have a sniffle when they came to us. They also aren't wheezing, or showing any other signs of illness. Is this something I should worr...

Re: Good breeders/bad breeders/ rodent farms

Just a suggestion from a newbie, but i would worry if a "breeder" was going to let me walk off with just one rat, without questioning if there were others at home for it to play with, also even the pet store I bought my rats at questioned the size of cage I was getting, type of litter I wa...

Where has the blood come from?

We have had a shoe box out for our ratties when they free range, so they have a second place to go and hide in. Yesterday when I removed the shoe box due to the fact that they had decimated it, I took the lid off and found what i can only assume is blood splattered all over the inside. If you scaled...

Re: Others Experience of Breeders?

The original point of the question was to find out what is normal and usual for rats on a large scale, rather than to criticise, and certainly not to judge, as has been suggested by some. I read your post because i have recently come back to owning rats, and have never bought from a breeder, so I w...
