How many Rats do you have ???!!

Post by Hobbs » Mon Sep 05, 2005 4:52 pm

Hi

I am really sorry if anyone has to move this post  - Not sure were this gos as in you and your rats it says no questions so.....

I just thought it would be interesting to know how many rats everyone has and who the biggest rattie keeper is on here! :D

Thanks I just couldn't control mym curiosity!

For the poll it doesn't include fostering ratties, though you can put them at the bottom if you want. Also sex and age etc. don't matter.

I'm the second one in that poll at 20 but there are certainly people out there with more rats than me.

Thought I would admit it and say 33-40 is me. Thoguh that doesn't include my current 2 litters of eepers (who number 23 on their own) as they are all reserved so not staying, if I counted them it'd be erm 57 :o :o

Ive got 12 at the moment but 6 of these are fosters, nice number as I can spend lots of time with each group (currently3) I would prefer if it was all girls and then I could spend loads of time with them but as all the fosters are boys they have to be freeranged at different times.

The most I ever had at one time was 13 rats - but old age and ill health have taken their toll and I now have only 8 rats. In future, I don't plan to have any more than 8, probably not more than 6 or 7.

For me, the 'problem' was that I had quite a few at similar ages, so I seem to have lost a lot of rats in a relatively short space of time. None of my 'recent' deaths have really been unexpected - all were rescues (apart from Jemima who was a pet shop rat) and all were between 2 and 3 years of age, but it's hard to lose so many in a *fairly* short space of time. 7 out of my current 8 rats are about 18 months old (some a bit less) so I may end up with the same situation in a year or so. (Probably less for my 4 sisters :( ) Which is hard. Hence my decision to have less ratties in the future.

I have 15 adult ratties and 13 babies... some of which I just know I will end up keeping as well :D
So at the moment I am at 28! Gosh sounds a lot when you include the babies :smileyrat:
Loving home to rescue ratties who all deserve a nice warm bed to sleep in and a kind word spoken to them every day!

I have a group of 7 girls, and then a group of 5 'younger' boys and two elderly pairs. Ideally I'd like to stay between 6-8 girls and 5-6 boys, as I think they are nice numbers for groups. But I have split the care between myself and my mother (who lives really nearby), so I guess I really only have 7...
