Maybe a little bit - but then of course there are stinky girls and sweet as roses boys out there too! :D

I hear it is much more noticeable/worse with mice.

Boys smell fabulous. They smell milky and soft and warm and fuzzy. I rush home from work at night and go straight to my boys and stick my nose in their warm soft fur  I love the way they smell!

Might depend whether they're scent marking - I don't know if boys smell worse than girls, but pre-neutering my two certainly made their cage stink far quicker. Now their nads are off (for aggression, not smelliness  ), they're probably the least stinky we've had.

My boys smell like biscuits!

I don't find them any smellier than girls, but I think it just depends on individual rats.

I think it is probably random - from personal experience girls actually smell a lot stronger - but as I said, I think it's probably coincidence!

My boys smell lovely, but they all smell different. I'm pretty sure I could tell which rat was which by just smelling them!

My boys tend to smell everything, whereas my girls are usually moving too fast.

There's 2 different types of smelliness. There's the smell you smell when you bury your nose in their fur, and that's just divine. I sweat I can get high on the smell of my boys. And there's the cage smell, when you're one or 2 days away from cleaning... and that's the same for boys and girls. Poop is poop and it smells the same for boys and girls (and varies according to what you feed them  ).

I've never noticed a difference in smelliness between my boys and my girls. My main boy group has the smelliest cage on cleaning day, but there's 4 of them in their cage, and 2 each in the other 2 cages, so that has to do with numbers, not gender. ;)
Proudly owned by Bryan (Habana), Victor (Matfield), Percy (Montgomery), John (Smit), Ricky (January) and Ruan (Pienaar) - our gorgeous rugby boys.
