What is my cage?

Post by not_ginger » Sun Oct 11, 2009 8:56 am

We got a 2nd hand cage of freecycle to hold the new boys while introductions take place, but I'm not sure what it is...

It's a Savic and is the same dimensions as the Freddy 2, but has the wire shelves (which we have now covered) so I don't think it can be designed for rats.

Any ideas anyone?

It's the original Freddy. As far as I know, when they brought out the Freddy 2, they changed the wire shelves to a plastic one, and centralised the door.

The wire shelves can be removed, and you can replace them by ferplast corner shelves if you want to. One of my Freddys came with the wire shelves but within a couple of weeks one of the residents had sprained his ankle, so I removed the wire after that. You could use a shelf to make a door in the top, or sell them for someone else to do so.

Unfortunately making another door from a shelf only works if you have the freddy, not the 2 - because the support bars are at different intervals in the 2 that don't match up

not that this influences the OP of course

I prefer the old freddys, the door's bigger.
they've changed the shelf and door layout a few times (some left, some right, some central), but why on earth, in the end, decide to make it with a smaller door?

looks good - nice hat!
As they're new though (although depends a bit where from), i wouldn't personally want to have such a long tube in there. depending on the individuals it could make getting them out of the cage a bit harder and you getting to know each other etc.

Thanks :)

Doesn't look like getting them out will be a problem. They've been really well socialised and are uber confident already! (They've been here all of 15min :P) They're also trying to destroy everything so I don't think the hat's going to last long....
