wire flooring

Post by JadeHardyox » Mon Mar 29, 2010 5:38 pm

hiya, my two male rats have a really big wire cage with 3 levels.. and the levels & ramps are all wire too instead of plastic as i thought in the long run.. wire was better!
on the floor, lying on top of the base is a sheet of metal wiring that the pet shop worker said to leave there..
is this a good idea? with the bedding type material stuff on top?
ive just got a feeling it might hurt/damage their feet..
or if they are just walking on a plastic base covered in bedding material.. they will slip

very confused.. advice appreciated :)

is it one of these?

If I had one, I'd take all the shelves out and replace them with Ferplast corner shelves so I had more room to hang hammocks and other toys. I'd also take the wire flooring out as it's not really doing much, and if the rats pee on it it'll just rust.

it is very much like that one, but just black.. i shall take the flooring then thanks :)
its not quite the same, still has plenty of space for hammocks etc
the other thing i wanted to ask (i think i got alot of bad advice from the pet shop) was that i am currently using bedding a little like this
http://www.petsathome.com/shop/small-pe ... resh-16108
so would i just put that straight on the bottom? and should i put anything else down? they have shredded paper bedding in their igloo...

thanks! sorry for the 20 Questions!!

I don't like care fresh as it got smelly quickly, and made my rats sneeze, but it's fine to use if you like it.
