The first one is ok. But really, you're getting what you pay for. If it was me I'd make a lot of alterations to it...

The second looks far too small, I wouldnt like it.

Whats your budget? I think the Furret plus is a great cage as long as youre not expanding your group any time soon. Its about 80 quid new, but there are always second hand ones floating around!

They look like the Critter. We had the double-decker one of those and, while it provided enough room for a few rats, it was a nightmare to clean. The doors were small and it was difficult to get access. We now have an Explorer, which is great....but big :D

Have a look through the 'Rate That Layout !' thread in this Habitat forum and see what others are using.
"Like a coiled string !"

Residing in the Explorer: Bella, Babs, Molly, Maisie and Husky.

What about a freddy or a jenny? Freddy should hold up to 4, and the jenny would hold 5 and they're always cropping up 2nd hand for cheap and in good condition. :D

There's a Jenny here in ayrshire, £25
http://www.gumtree.com/p/pets/large-rat ... 5/80673648

Critter 3 as well, £25
http://www.gumtree.com/p/pets/fore-sale ... e/80301535

Of the two i'd probs go for the critter 3 as a temporary cage, as it flatpacks. The jenny has uncoated bars, if you wanted to plastikote it and add a larger door it can be a great cage though.

The bars look rust free on that picture. So the only issue you would have really with the jenny would be access, but they're easy to mod and equine canine feline are selling freddy doors which are perfect. :)

How many rats do you have?

The two cages you linked to, i use as hospital cages and wouldn't think suitable for a permanent home unless only a couple rats..

cage calculator says 5 rats in that one. If they still have id start at a low offer of £20 and dont sound too keen, the ad has been on for ages. Dont agree to buy it until you have seen it though! Check all the bars are intact and rost rust.cracks/chews etc

do they mean 80x80x50 inches?

eta i assumed it was a furet xl which are just over £100 new, if it is one of thsoe and they paid £175 they were ripped off! id try for 30-40 if its in good condition :D
