Turns out that Al-Mustansiriya is a university in Baghdad!

I for one would like to welcome my fellow student, petier and rat-lover to the board with open arms - ignore the remarks of these crass heathens; they haven't greuned for 28hrs a day and so wouldn't understand the prestige!

I see..................
I was going to suggest how they could identify the offenders, they all have websites, and they have domain names like
http://www.buyallyourpillsherewithoutvisitingadoctorbutyouarelikelytodieasaresult.com
P.S do NOT click on the above..I just made them up
:D
The trouble is, there are some sites that are actually perfectly legitimate that would fit right into that category! What if someone signed up with *removed* for instance? :o

They sound very much like bots.. They're all over forums, especially if there's an open membership policy.. The CAPTCHA seems to have been beaten.. Farewell security innovation, you have been made obsolete :(

I love the name Thonorhoonse. Maybe I'll steal that for the new forum. Sounds like some sort of forest imp.

The admins are very busy at the moment trying to get the new forum up and running, and a couple are off on holiday, or imminently off on holiday. If you keep on reporting these posts when they pop up then they should get moved fairly quickly by us admin aides, unfortunately we can’t delete the users but it should keep the forum as clear as possible.

Also can we remember this is a family forum, and whilst I know your all just having a laugh I’m not sure some of the stuff above is strictly something younger members should be reading.

It's basically an automated system that'll sign up and post spam on forums (among other things they can be programmed for). Usually, they'll just go round as many forums as they can find and post the same message(s) each time.

What I really don't understand is, what's the point of bots? Is it just to give people viruses? How sadistic...

Not necessarily viruses - it can just be to promote websites too (i.e. illicit pharmaceuticals).

A lot of those sites will probably carry viruses or phish for your details too, though - the best rule to remember with internet security is that there is someone out there trying to get your usernames and passwords, it can happen to you, and you should always bear that in mind!
