If you send an email to breeders@nfrs.org you'll receive a list of breeders registered with the NFRS. Alternatively you could look on the breeders part of the web directory in the resources section of this forum.

Remember that wherever a breeder's details come from, it is not an automatic recommendation, and you should satisfy yourself that they meet your own expectations by asking plenty of questions.

yes, i am a little worried about getting from a breeder as i'm normally pretty much against it in general, prefering to adopt animals from rescue centres, however, i really would like to get some dumbos and was thinking this would be my best chance. also, can't really travel too far to collect so some rescues are a bit far for me. will email for the list though. thanks

Probably for the same reasons a lot of people are against breeding. Why breed when you can rescue.

There are lots of dumbos in rescue, including kittens - and you may find that a rat train can be arranged to help the rats get to you. It's always worth asking.

Bex doesn't do Dumbos at the moment. I don't think there are any breeders in Kent or Sussex that do them. If you can go as far afield as Essex, Jo @ Epiphany breeds them, but she wont have any until the summer.

i don't think alison was arguing that, just answering the question posed of why other people might prefer rescue rats for themselves :)

So rats from a breeder are guaranteed not to have health or other problems and rescue rats are guaranteed to have them?

Of course not - it was a generalisation - just pointing out that we all have a choice, and some people prefer to get breeder rats rather than rescues. Rescue rats ARE more likely to have problems though - that is the nature of rescue.

what do you think about those breeder rats who end up in rescue, in regards to health issues??

it happens more than you think when the breeders wont take them back.

I don't know of a single breeder that wouldn't take their own rats back - I don't doubt that there are some very dubious breeders out there - I know of several myself. I was talking about good breeders.

This wasn't meant to turn into a breeder V rescue debate - I was merely answering MR's question "why breed when you can rescue?" Rescue rats arn't for everyone.
