Rat varieties website needing input ...

Post by toyah » Fri Jun 03, 2011 10:08 am

I've spent the last few months working hard on a long-overdue overhaul to my rat varieties website - and while I'm nowhere near finished yet, I'm far enough that I am ready to ask for help! The new URL for the site is now http://ratvarieties.com and there are pages for most standardised colours and markings. Please take a look, and if you have any photos or information you'd like to contribute, there's a feedback/contribution form on the site.
Everything happens to everybody sooner or later if there is time enough.

Well, the site seems to have taken right now as a chance to go on a go-slow (I am going to move the hosting of it to somewhere more reliable in the next couple of days), but even then it should only load slowly and not crash anything!

What browser are you using Lisa and what version? It's been tested in Chrome / IE / Safari / Firefox here and appears fine though slow.

You need to take a backup of all your files and any databases, then purchase new hosting elsewhere and upload everything to there. If you have a domain name you'll need to point it at the new hosting, but the details will really depend on exactly what hosting you have and where you're moving to ...

The site looks brill toyah, i am having a good look round. One thing that might be nice to add in the future (after you've finished the other epic tasks) is maybe the odd note against the pics (maybe linked to the hovery thing or maybe as a split section) indicating where rats are good and bad examples of the standard, though i know this would be tricky. Or maybe split it by 'previous show winners' and 'pets'. Photo's showing typical faults would also be amazing

Your welcome to use any of my photo's that you would like. Some possible ones that might be helpful are;

Loki showing off an agouti belly well, even though he's not the best agouti
Image

This one could be useful showing what an old agouti coat can look like, the almost two tone look
Image

Limi showing his silvered black, one of the better ones where it doesn't just look like coat shine
Image

and another fair one of his silvering
Image

Luke is actually very silvered too but am never sure it really looks it on pictures or looks more like heathering, plus you can't show RB's as silvered any more but it doesn't make them any less silvered lol.
Image

a dark phased pearl chap bb bohemian i looked after once
Image

Mu showing his slightly wibbly dumbo ears and not the best agouti colour
Image

Help yourself to anything else here

Looking good. And I am especially chuffed to see our Negg's pic on there (agouti, bottom row, middle pic) - Odyssey Negg.

Being something of a newbie to all this, I find rat varieties really interesting but totally bemusing, so your website is an absolute Godsend, thank-you :)

Do you need photos for all that are without? I've got tonnes that you're welcome to (mostly various shades of silver fawn, pale topaz, pale buff, agouti, champers and mismarked hooded, berks and capped) but they're quite common so if you already have them I won't start digging them out!

I like the little descriptions with a little bit of history of the variety :)
Sian & Boojum, Minnow, Poot, Esme, Oak, Burdock, Ptarmigan, Blunder and Jacques.
Missing Hugo, Krindle, Dandelion, Baron, Winder, Snark, Snapcase, Snufkin, Twirl, Somer, Musket, Hodgkins, Urs.
