Spud had pretty silly ears, but they look a bit better since he grew into them.

Hat ears aren't linked to dumbo parents, it's just the way some top-eared rats hold their ears :)

actually, i don't know what hat ears are supposed to look like? :-? are Zazie's? her ears are always positioned like this, as opposes to my Siamese Zima's ears are facing the front and upright.

yup just like that, its a term describing when a top eared rat holds their ears out sideways/flatter as if they are wearing an invisible hat (i always imagine a bowler hat, but i'm sure different styles are possible ;) ). Sometimes the hat isn't even invisible! :D
