Power grooming of their owners

Post by leg_iron » Fri Feb 11, 2011 10:41 pm

One of my 2 boys has just started to try and power groom my eyebrows. Unfortunately he bit me instead of grooming me, i dont think he could get proper access as i wear glasses. Does anyone elses rat do this.
My boys: Septimus, Hartley & Topov.

Noodles removes my specs in order to groom eyelashes! (He often gets distracted by "oooh glasses" and forgets his plan though)

I have doe's that do this to me, even biting my nails! It's nothing to worry about, it is in fact very common, also Pip my current rat loves to lick me, even when I have just washed my hands so they are all soapy! Lots of owner's have problem's with this, I resulted to tap them on their nose, gently but hard enough so they know what's going on. Every time this comes up tap them on the nose eventually after lots of tapping they learn. Hope I've helped, iadorerats & Pip :girly:

I would definitely NOT do this. Corporal punishment for a natural behaviour could be extremely damaging to the rat!

You could remove their teeth? Prevention better than cause and all that :P

As it happens, I'm working on rat-sized muzzles at the moment!

Trumpet power grooms me at every opportunity, it can get a bit painful but he doesn't mean to hurt and I'm no pain-wimp :)

I used to have a buck (Lump) who would take my glasses off just because he liked to. Then one day he bit my eye. So the glasses game had to stop. But again, he didn't mean to hurt me and my eyeball survived!

I also have several who like to barber me, right on top of my head

RIP Rocky, Devy, Lump, Aleister, Loki, Jester, Flay, Sooty, Baby.
