Results so far -

Rats that have been injected with undiluted baytril: 130
How many of those rats developed a burn: 66

Rats that were injected with diluted baytril: 6
How many of those rats developed a burn: 0

Burns that got infected: 5

So pretty much 50% of rats injected will get a burn with undiluted baytril (with zoundz's "about 15" it's 45%) and of those 8% will get infected.

This is only so far, if anyone else wants to add things then please do.

A lady I was talking to said her rat had a baytril injection but didn't suffer from any reaction as I said some rats can get burns so it's best to do it orally.

I've trawled through my vet statements for you  ...

Rats that have been injected with undiluted baytril: 9
How many of those rats developed a burn: 1

Rats that were injected with diluted baytril: 0

How many ratties developed burn infection: 0

I've talked to my vet about baytril burns, as she was very surprised when Trixie developed a scab (approx 1.5 cm across, between her shoulder blades), and now she's very interested to know the results of this survey in case it would indicate a change in their use of baytril injections. However, we do seem to have had a much better track record than most :o

Bear in mind that this survey will presumably only present the worst case scenario though, as many who haven't experienced any burns may not even read this thread, let alone contribute :-?

i cant help you with your survey as i have always said no to any vet trying to inject and opted for the oral option instead as without evidance i always preferd to play it safe and try every other option first, but hoorah to you midnight rose for starting the thread as (see my post below) its getting abit hard trying to explain to vets why i say no and them saying its a load of rubish that they have never heard of it happening befor.

rats injected with baytril = 1
developed a burn= 1

I've only had one rat injected with baytril after he was neutered so I wasn't there to stop them. I don't think it was diluted but they never said. It didn't get infected.

rats injected with baytril (don't if it was diluted): 1
burns: 0

but he had about 4 or 5 injections so it was prolly diluted, my vet is very good, specialises in small animals and rodents.
