I don't know whether it was diluted or not but it was 10% Baytril. Is that diluted??? Anyway based on this.

Rats injected with Baytril: 4
Rats who developed burns: 4

However I would like to point out I believe Manolo would've died if it hadn't been for the injection, her burn didn't infect, and I would rather have her healthier and with a burn than not have her at all.

I only advocate injecting it if it's a life or death situation though, as all four of the rats who had baytril burns were bothered by them
RIP Manolo, Blahnik, Jimmy, Choo, Sir Bartimus Bumsnake, Harpers, Queen, Oscar, Della, Renta and the rt hon Oscar II.

If a rat has been injected more than once with baytrill do you count the number of injections or the different number of rats?

I have counted how many injections administered and the reactions, but this is across 6 different female rats

Rats that have been injected with undiluted baytril: 16
How many of those rats developed a burn: 1

Rats that were injected with diluted baytril: 0
The dilution factor of the baytril (eg. times 10) :
How many of those rats developed a burn:

Burns that got infected: TBA

My little rat injected on Friday has developed a burn. It's a first for me. Yesterday it was a little scab - today it's more of a burn/blister about 4mm across. Do you have any advice how to treat and how to prevent developing further or getting infected. I am really worried now after reading of 2 rats that died from infected burns.

Hello, a bit late to join this thread but I can say that I have had one rat injected with baytril and I can honestly say never again, she is in a right state and has a huge burn which is not healing, and the wretched ink=jection does not seem to have helped her at all.

So boo, down with injecting baytril...

I did worry about it for a while but it did heal over 2 or 3 weeks. Sadly she was put to sleep last week. She recovered from her breathing problems but I fear she developed a pituatory tumour as she started to lose the use of her front paws and her back legs got weak and scrabbly. I couldn't bear to see her so confused and she looked stressed.

I hope your little one settles. I have had many ratties have baytril injections and Coco was the first to have a problem. I am pretty sure it was because she was skinny and if the baytril gets in the skin layers rather than under the skin and fat then it burns. Both rats had the injection at the same time and they both scratched at their necks straight after but only Coco developed a burn. Kitten is a lot fatter so maybe that is what helped.

My rat was injected on Wednesday so maybe not enough time to see if she develops a bump - If she has a reaction I will edit/post again.

I currently have 2 rats being treated with Baytril via injection. Both have large "burns" one has much larger one than the other.

My first rattie Madge was injected on a number of occaisions. In fact she was so hard to get meds into that at the time it seemed the best option. (This was before I joined the forum & discovered "baytril burn")

I now avoid it if possible, but the vet still injects them if they've just had surgery. Perhaps because my vet is very experienced with small furries none have ever suffered a burn.
