How much have you spent....Vet Survey.
Re: How much have you spent....Vet Survey.
In 2009 I spent approx £1600 on vet bills although £800 of this was on one rat! In 2010 so far I have spent about £400
but I have just moved to a cheaper vet so hoping it will get better.

I think, from September 2007, until now, I've spent about £800ish. Had a mega expensive few months, but we're all okay... for now!
£18,000!
I'll be amazed if anyone beats that!
£18,000!

Re: How much have you spent....Vet Survey.
by comparison to some of the above my amount is miniscule, but its hit me hard enough.
so far this year alone in the care of my boys. i've visited the vets forapproximately four seperate reasons, emergency castration surgery, neutoring, toe amputation, sprained hock and respitory problems. i have some reciepts saved but i think the grand total from January to now - August approx £500. and £450 of that was in the last two months. i am officially out of money.
Last year by comparison though i think i only spent about £60 on vets bills

Re: How much have you spent....Vet Survey.
I'm not having a bad year at all, so far only spent around £150 (on vets)
All my girlies are quite young though eldest are only 18 months so expecting next year to hurt a lot more!
Last year I has three eldery ladies so the total was substantially more (I really don't want to work it out!)
Worth every penny

Re: How much have you spent....Vet Survey.
I got my first 2 boys (breeder- waldo and peppin) in December 2008 and another 2 (pet shops- beany and sam) in April 2009. I got Ricco from a rescue in October 2009 and Noodle from rescue in November 2009.
September 2009. Respiratory infections for Beany and Peppin, baytril= £32
December 2009. Castration for Noodle=£46 (not paid by me) Respiratory infections for Beany and Sam and Peppin, baytril= £24
Feb 2010. Respiratory infections for Peppin and Beany, septrin and metacam= £37
April 2010. Respiratory infections for Beany and Sam, septrin= £40
April 2010. Extra medication for Beany and Sam, septrin= £21
May 2010. Respiratory infections for Beany and Sam, ronaxan= £21
June 2010. Put to sleep for Sam
= £13
July 2010. Lump Removal and Castration for Peppin= £56 Medication for Peppin=£5
November 10th 2010. Medication for Ricco on boldon lane for respiratory problems=£6
As you can see, my 2 pet shop boys have been to the vets most with respiratory issues. Waldo (breeder) has never had a single issue in his life and is now over 2 and his brother Peppin has only ever needed the vets once or twice for an actual health issue as the other time was for a castration and a fatty lump removal. As you can see, all of Sams medication eventually just stopped working and he was put to sleep at just 17 month old after suddenly becoming extremely ill one day. I dont think Ive ever been too unlucky in having huge or unexpected bills fortunately

Re: How much have you spent....Vet Survey.
In 10 months from March 2010 until Jan 2011 I have spent £688.
This is for 2 spays and one lump removal and the rest is all for respiratory infections
