Ahh this is giving me lots of inspiration for what i should feed my ratties when (if) i get them.

I hear doggy kibble being mentioned a lot, is it just dog biscuits? I'm a cat owner so would it be okay to use cat biscuits instead e.g Gocat

Cat food in general has a much higher protein content than dog kibble and I believe this is why dog is preferred. I use James Well Beloved, its about £7 a bag and lasts me about 4 months with 3 rats (or has so far....) I use the fish one because I dont trust processed chicken meal with my girlies...but im just picky :)

Just been reorganising the ratty food cupboard agaaaiiiin to try and make more room, iminent ratty surgery = keep busy/mind occupied mode so i've also made another
batch of food, not that they've ran out of their current one yet. Well I also thought they deserved it after spending the past few weeks not knowing how to eat their new mix :(
but after modifying it for a while they've now finally got the hang of it and it's clean bowls all round :D

This is their new mix: I don't have a clue about the nutritional analysis Re: percentages of protein/fat etc but if anybody thinks it's to high/low in anything please let me know so that I can alter it

Image

RR BASE NO.3 geriatric & kidney support plus (flaked maize, barley, peas, soya, whole barley, maize, buckwheat, white dari, mixed millet, paddy rice,
Seeds: linseed, hemp, milk thistle, white quinoa, pumpkin, fennel) 60%

CEREALS: organic cornflakes, puffed rice, ryvita, Jordans natural n.a.s museli, rice cakes, egg biscuit, tomato & spinach pasta twists and garlic & basil linguine. 25%

VEGETABLES: carrots, celeriac, parsnip, onion, cabbage, green peppers, leek, tomato, red peppers, peas and mixed mushrooms.10%

HERBS: echinacea, dandelion, plantain, chicory, mint, milk thistle, marigold, cornflour, jerusalem artichoke.5%

And finished off with a garlic powder and sesame seed garnish, oh and a few pieces of Burns fish & brown rice kibble 2-3 times a week as it needs using up.

I always thought my mix looked really plain/boring so it's helped typing a list of individual ingredients and looking at it spread out a bit as it's quite suprising just how
much variety goes into peoples dry mixes.
