peas and broad beans in shells

Post by KateR » Tue Jul 07, 2009 3:06 pm

I've just harvested a load of peas and broad beans from our allotment, and just wanted to double check that it was ok to give them straight to the rats like that. Obviously they love peas and broad beans given to them shelled, but i wanted to make sure that there were no problems with the shells themselves.

Cheers.

i gave them to mine a while ago (shop bought) and they shelled them and took the peas out. after a bit of encourageing though i had to split a few pods and get some peas out for them, as they just looked at them and turned them round alot. but they loved getting the peas out

Great thanks. I thought they probably would be fine, but didn't want to accidentally poison them.

Once they know what's inside they'll shell them faster than the speed of light. I thought they'd have a go at the pods too but they're not daft.

My girls will only eat them when cooked  so I steam them and because they're not as bright as they should be I have to split the ends of one or two to remind them whats inside

Peas in pods, or frozen peas in a water dish. Either way, they're a huge hit.
