Post by Amanda Shay » Thu Mar 17, 2011 5:04 am

Does anybody else have a problem with ants getting in your rats foodbowls? If so how do you keep them out of them? Please help...

What country are you in and how often are you feeding more dry food/ removing uneaten fresh food?

Im in the United States. I leave dry food in their bowls 24/7, and they each get fruits and veggies twice a day. But the ants dont just go to the wet/fresh food, they get in all the food, and all in the cage, i can see them on the wires of the cage as well. So ive been having to basically clean the cage after they eat especiall if there are alot of ants. It doesnt take the food 20 mins to be covered in ants

If the cage is in your room and not outside you need to be treating the problem of ants being in your house first and then that should rid them from the rat cage. Unless they are those little weevils that live indry food - are you sure they are ants?

Im sure they are ants, we have never had an issue with them before. Its strange because the ants font get into the cat's free feed bowl, just the rats' cage and foodbowls.
