Rat rations complete mix - which one?

Post by Sandie » Thu May 05, 2011 9:22 am

Hi
This will be my second order from Rat Rations and I now see they do complete mixes.

What one would be recommended for my 5 month old rats?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

The adult mix, number 7 i thinks, it's a good allrounder

On the ratRations page with No.7 on it,it says 'Rats fed on just the straights with no attempt to give vitamin D/calcium could become quite ill over time. The easiest way to supplement has to be with a Calcivet/Calciform type of liquid that goes into the water.' so is that needed with No.7 then?

It says that on all the pages with straights listed I think for extra clarity/ reminders. Commercial foods will have it (and other things) already added :)

Sorry to steal the OP's thread but I am also considering getting complete mix no7 to try now as I have noticed some rusting on coats. I was also considering the complete mix no8 seeing as my boys are now approaching 27 months - I would purchase calcivet liquid to be given in water as well as the senior aid the boys currently receive as well. Which one would be deemed more appropriate? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

There's new ones on there now aswell, 11a and 11b? The Zephyr rats ones. I got very confused but the 11 ones said kidney friendly too.

Hi,
I have only just seen this as the forum seems to have a mind of it'1 own just recently.
No. 7(Adult kidney friendly) or No. 11(All adults) will do nicely. When they get to about 24 months you might consider changing to No.8(Geriatric kidney friendly).
If one or more of the youngsters seem to be lagging behind you may wish to extra feed a little No.9(growth and reproduction) or No. 20(softfood for mothers and babies) when the others are free-ranging
I am sorry for all the numbers but we were getting very confused with names.
As regards the note about additives, this was written because the mixtures as they stand are lacking in some vitamins, copper, calcium and especially Vitamin D. We recommend Dailyrat3, Daily Essentials 1, Calciform or Calcivet to be added.

The benefit of there being several generally suitable mixes is that you can vary them for interest. Which is why there are two versions of number 11, simply for variety, they are otherwise equivalent.

So maybe buy a bag of number 7 and a bag of one of the 11s, feed one for a few days, and then switch to the other for a few days, etc.. :D

I feed No 7 (the normal one - I have no objections to soya or garlic!), but I'll probably buy No 11 next time for a bit of variety - it looks great, good work Rat Rations team and Mary :)
