The big taste test..

Post by mupsy » Thu Jun 30, 2011 8:10 pm

Well..
With many different diets being offered to our little rittys, ive decided it'd be a good idea to see just how yummy they are!
A few of you will think im mad but I bet the majority of FR have indeed had a nibble, even a yoggy or two

Maybe after I've done this I can appreciate why my lot are so picky!
I will be nomming and rating all the usual suspects found in a basic mix... in all honesty, for a bit of fun!

Stay tuned guys, oh and feel free to add your ratty food favs :D

Don't bother trying P@H nuggets - they're rank. Science Supreme nuggets are a little better but still disgusting.. our rats love nuggets though, they'll eat them as treats

Dried cranberries from RR don't last as long as they should in this house..
Sian & Boojum, Minnow, Poot, Esme, Oak, Burdock, Ptarmigan, Blunder and Jacques.
Missing Hugo, Krindle, Dandelion, Baron, Winder, Snark, Snapcase, Snufkin, Twirl, Somer, Musket, Hodgkins, Urs.

I tried baytril once, to see how easily the taste could be disguised. It was a bit bitter and acidic, but ok.

Told the vet this, and she was horrified- she said it's an hallucinogenic in humans! :o

Let it be known that I do not see the appeal of dr squiggles or senior aid. Rank.

Apparently mealworms taste like pork scratchings.

I haven't tried them myself... someone told me on a chicken forum!

Ahaha ohhh im beginning to regret this now seeing the replies!

Well.. here goes!..

P@H nugget : enitially feels very bland in my mouth (yes im eating the whole thing) Weetabix-like with a strong taste of iron.
Very boring flavour, cereal with a pack of iron nails added! Leaves husky aftertaste
*rating - 1/5 *

Peanut : Tastes much like "normal" peanuts but has dusting of other foods on it so not quite "right" yummo!
*rating - 4/5*

Green nugget : ROCK HARD! sweeter than the P@H nugget but same texture.. no flavour at all! just mushy damp nugget.
*rating - 1/5*

Sunflower seed: YUMMO! my favourite! exactly the same as health shop seeds :)
*rating - 5/5*

squashed seed thing: again.. rock hard, flakey and dry, hard to nibble but breaks down into sourish tasting mush.
outside "skin" is irritating and sharp.
*rating - 0/5*

Orange nugget : Same as green nugget.. Yuck but not vom worthy!
1/5

To be continued!
