Yep chives are fine, mine get them occasionally. I tend to feed the greener part of the chive though. They also like chive flowers if you have a plant

That's a Jerusalem artichoke - they're fine for rats :) General rule of thumb is that if it's safe for people it is for rats too.

What about Rhubarb? I have been given a load from a friends garden. I'd like to give them a bit raw but don't know if that's any good?

As with people, only feed the stem and not the leaves. And don't give them the rooty end of the stem either as the roots are laxatives  I only mention that as I give the rooty end of the stem of leeks to mine. But raw it is safe, if a little bitter :)

Thank you! However, my Nan has come along and taken it all to make me a Rhubard crumble! Problem solved, the rats will have to have some Kale instead lol.

Some foods are listed as how you can give them to the rats. One thing that is missing is advice on the Aduki beans - I just bought some and tried feeding them my ratties after boiling but they weren't keen... do I need to soak before boiling?

The Scuttling Gourmet says that you can feed Aduki beans sprouted, raw, canned or boiled, but has anyone actually tried this?
Also, Mung beans are missing from the list (which apparently can be given sprouted, raw, canned or boiled).

could we sticky this? because it would answer a lot of questions which new topics are started for. Just an idea :D

Just wondering if it would be fine for me to use this list to print off & use in a class I'm teaching? It's so far the most effective list I've found, myself I only feed a fraction of what is listed at any given time, purely due to availability, so this is quite valuable.
