this thread is brilliant! It has given me some great ideas for my own rat mix. Will definitely be going onto Rat Rations to get some ingredients!

Cool thread :) Just made up a new batch of food. There is a LOT - should last me a couple of months! I wasn't sure about the Wagg Bunny Brunch but actually the rats seem pretty keen on it so that's good. It's not exactly a huge part of my mix so it doesn't matter too much. This may be tweaked over the next few weeks depending on the condition of the ratties. They also get Dr Squiggles 3-4 days a week and Daily Rat 3 twice a week - they probably don't actually need it but I like to be sure they're getting everything they need :)

Base Mix - 49%
10 scoops Flakes & Grains 2: Flaked barley, Paddy rice, Groats, Flaked peas, Flaked maize, Whole maize, Buckwheat, White dari.
8 scoops Banana Brunch: Flakes peas, Flaked Barley, Oats, Flaked maize, Flaked beans, Wheat discs, Banana chips, Flaked Carrot, Banana essence, Vitamins and minerals.
4 scoops Wilkinsons Fruity Rabbit: Flaked peas, Flaked maize, Extruded cereals, Grass pellets, Flaked wheat, Oats, Dried fruit, Locust beans, Carrot, Soya oil, Vitamins and minerals.
4 scoops Wagg Bunny Brunch: Flaked peas, Wheat, Wheat feed, Oatfeed, Oats, Flaked maize, Lucerne, Whole maize, Sunflower meal, Vegetable oil, Apple, Grape, Grass syrup, Locust bean meal, Linseed , Yeast, Vitamins and minerals.

Human cereals - 19%

1 scoop wholemeal pasta
2 scoops dark ryvitas
2 scoops bitesize shredded wheat
3 scoops oats
2 scoops weetabix

Seed/herbs - 10%
1 scoop Rat Rations seed mix: Pumpkin seeds, Hemp, Linseed, Quinoa, Milk thistle, Fennel.
3 scoops linseed
1/3 scoop pumpkin seeds
1 scoop sesame seeds

Protein - 8%
3 scoops mealworms
1 scoop roasted soy beans

Other - 13%
2 scoops Herbal Delight - Meadow grass, Flaked wheat, Flaked oats, Wheat, Flaked peas, Popped wheat, Parsley, Carrot, Carob, Alfalfa, Popped corn, Flaked corn, Beetroot, Lemon balm, Peppermint, Marigold.
3 scoops dog bone biscuits
1 scoop milky bone biscuits
2/3 scoop sundried banana chips
Garlic Powder

Resurrecting a bit of an old thread here, but this is my latest RR mix;

Ingredients:

Mix:

Its loosely based on Mary's simple straights mix, but not so simple anymore! Lots of variety, but everything is well balanced (I had a spreadsheet out and everything while I was ordering quantities...)
Andy and the ratties: Seven, Kes, Luna, Ada, Orion, Bandit

1 scoop soya flakes
Half scoop mixed herbs

yesterday i've made a new mix, this time it is a quite simple and vegetarian mix.

this are the ingredients:

2kg paddy
2kg barley
1kg millet
1kg maize
1kg buckwheat
300gr linseed
300gr hempseed
100gr sesameseed
1kg peas
200gr rice cakes
1600gr muesli (oatflakes,wheat flakes,barley flakes,raisins and nuts)
500gr pasta
1kg white rice

it doesn't contain any vegetables, herbs or fruit because they get lots of fresh things.

please don't mind my poor english,i'm from the netherlands,if i make a stupid mistake, please let me know!

My biggest piece of advice would be to change the container you keep it in. Small non-square footprint doesn't work for rat mixes as the ingredients settle very quickly (big to top/ little to bottom). Something narrow like a tupperware cereal box (looks like it to me?) encourages this. It's also very hard to mix up the food properly once it's in - I give a brief mix each time before I take food out :) Something with a bigger footprint is much better to keep the variety the same as you go through the food.

Thanks, I do have a problem with bits settling I just assumed it would happen with any container, will definately have to move mix to a different container :dumbogirly:

It happens to a degree, but in boxes of more cubic dimensions it's easier to sort out withot it becoming a big thing :)
