My rats just had there first fight :(

Post by casw » Sat Jul 30, 2011 10:01 pm

My rats just had there first fight :( I adopted a lone blue rat and introduced them and it went perfect. Then tonight Nugget was bullying the new rat and the screaming was awful. I checked all the rats and no one had any cuts except ONE who i didnt see involved in it. Blood has been drawn from my baby hairless rat. They accepted him straight away a few weeks ago but tonight somethings happened. He seems still happy and the cuts not too bad.

Just gutted.

:( Many hugs, I imagine that must be awful.
Don't have much advice but you have my sympathy!

I'm sure someone more knowledgable here can spread some light on this behaviour. :)

Don't worry! These things happen. As long as your rat is alright and seems happy, everything will be fine. My big cage of girls plus one neutered boy are normally fine, but every once in a while, all hell breaks loose. There is squealing and kicking and the substrate comes flying out. I rush over and there is a ball of screaming, kicking ratties and it looks like the end of the world as we know it. Then it all stops and everyone looks embarrassed. Well, everyone except Maybug and the Parkies ... who are usually the ones at the centre of the ball. I am never sure what the fight is about. I used to think it was food, but, whilst everyone else is kicking and screaming, my boy takes the best food and the babies up to the sputnik for safe keeping. He's alpha and my view is that, if he isn't worried, then I am not worried.

Sounds normal to me and hairless tend to pick up scratches easily, so no fear :luck:
