blood in eye?

Post by KateR » Wed Aug 03, 2011 6:58 am

We noticed last night when saying goodnight to the rats that one of them had what looked like blood inside her eyeball. It's at the bottom of here eye, but moves when you alter the angle she's at, so it's definitely liquid - like this http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=hyphem ... a=N&tab=wi

It was possibly slightly swollen last night but more so this morning. She doesn't seem to be in any paina nd is otherwise well and active and alert.

I tried to get a pic but no joy.

Any thoughts please?

We've seen the vet and she was stumped - she's never seen this (technical term hyphema) in a rat. Thoughts were bleeding issue (she's a squirrel), trauma or blood pressure. She's going to do some research but has given her a vitamin K injection in case it is clotting-related, and we're to give her some pred to help bring the swelling down.
